'Learn to Fly Fish' Courses

Learn to fly fish for trout on one of our 2 or 3 day courses in the Highlands of Scotland. Our 'Learn to Fly Fish' courses are based near the village of Evanton, Ross-shire, just 20 miles north of Inverness. Instruction mainly takes place at Dalgheal and on a private lochan a short walk away. The lochan is stocked with rainbow trout, but also has its own wild brown trout population - it's an ideal environment to learn to fly fish. In addition to the lochan, we visit a nearby rainbow trout fishery, and there will also be talks on various aspects of fly fishing given at Dalgheal. The emphasis of the course is on rapidly developing your proficiency in fly casting, but time will also be given to other aspects of fly fishing including safety, tackle, entomology and tactics. Fly fishing instruction will be given by a professional game angling instructor supported by an experienced ghillie, if group size dictates. Each course will be limited to just 6 anglers, ensuring plenty of personal attention combined with expert local knowledge. The basic course is two days in duration starting on the Saturday morning and finishing on Sunday afternoon, but for those with more time to spare and a desire to widen their experience, an optional extension of an additional day will provide a foundation in boat fishing for wild brown trout. There are just 4 spaces available for this optional excursion.

Course prices are inclusive of all tuition, fishing permits, course materials and tackle hire. Accommodation must be booked separately. Pricing for accompanying non-fishing partners is available on request.

There are several accommodation options that we can suggest, or you can make your own arrangements if you would prefer. We have a limited amount of B&B available at Dalgheal, or we can recommend Kiltearn Guest House nearby, that also offer evening meals.
